Thornhill Open House @ Thronhill Community Centre

We are incredibly grateful to all of you who attended our open house and shared your valuable input. Your participation and feedback means the world to us and our community. Together, we can make a difference and continue to grow and improve.
 

Highlights from the Event:

 
Sidewalks and Accessibility:
• Lack of sidewalks for people with wheelchairs and walkers.
• Dangerous hill on Old Lakelse Road for pedestrians and drivers.
• Urgent need for sidewalks in various areas, including Upper Thornhill.
 
Safety Concerns:
• Speed limits on residential streets (e.g. Laurel Street) are not enforced, leading to dangerous conditions.
• Blind intersection on Krumm Road just after the bridge is a hazard.
• Heavy trucks speeding (70-90 km/h) pose risks.
• Pets being hit and children at risk.
• Safe areas needed for children waiting for buses.
• Dangerous roads (e.g., DDP road) require attention.
 
Public Services:
• Gratitude for the Thornhill Fire Department Community Connection response to Kalum Lake fires.
• Issues with the conduct of upcoming bylaw vote.
• Need for a community garden.
• Bus stop and school bus stop improvements needed.
 
Community and Infrastructure:
• Unauthorized camps behind Circle K and other areas; lack of response from RDKS.
• Discussion on incorporation versus joining Terrace, including pros and cons.
• Query about the Thornhill group’s next meeting.
• Discussion on user groups and responsibilities concerning agricultural grounds.
• Suggestions for collaboration between groups (e.g., Totem Saddle Club, 4H, community garden).
• Maintenance responsibilities and shared goals.
• Example: donating manure/compost to the garden group, potential farm stand or farmers market.
 
Additional Concerns:
• Need for a cemetery.
• Safe areas for walking and nature walks (e.g., Penner Street forest area).
• Senior center improvements.
• Desire for a water park for children.
• Homeless situation and fire hazards due to camps in the forests.
• Need to monitor camps to keep them safe or remove them.
• Garbage dump times need to be more accessible.
