Vote No to Unfair Taxes: Protect Thornhill's Future

Thornhill gets NO respect from anyone

I wonder where all the greed and hatred for Thornhill (Area E) and Area C residents comes from within Terrace and the Kitimat-Stikine regional district? The city is receiving $34.5 million and the regional district $11.9 million from the Northwestern B.C. Resource Benefits Alliance. But even with that combined $46.5 million, they feel they need $40,000 from Thornhill (Area E) and Area C. This is greed, not need. Perhaps the mayor of Terrace and the chair of the regional district can explain why they need our money when they have more than $46.5 million of their own (that's more than $9 million a year) to cover any expenses at Heritage Park, as well as putting sidewalks for the safety of our children around the schools and streets in Thornhill for starters.

Where is Area C director Bruce Bidgood and Area E director Ted Ramsey? Are they hiding out instead of stating any concerns over this big discrepancy in distributing the wealth fairly to all communities within the regional district? Thornhill (Area E) has a larger population than 16 of the 21 communities receiving money from the benefits alliance. Where is our MLA and our MP? There are more than 6,000 voters in this area.

VOTE
Thornhill & AREA "C"

Hello Thornhill, Neighboring Communities, and Friends.

Summer is quickly approaching so is the "Vote" July 15th to Aug 20th Est time frame. A No Show up is a vote in favor of this unfair bylaw/tax. Voting forms are available online at RDKS or will be available at the Thornhill OPEN HOUSE Sunday July 21st at Thornhill Community Hall @ 1-5pm, refreshments provided. Some of the speaker/groups in attendance will be Ted Ramsey, Bruce Bidgood, NW Cricket Association registration/demo, Skeena Heartbeat Society with cedar planters registration/demo, JL Excavating (Jerry) update on his Thornhill Business. There will be an OPEN MIKE and the Thornhill Fire Department will be in attendance for the Food Bank, please bring a non-perishable item if you are able to do so. Our monies would be better spent in Thornhill and AREA "C" for example: 1. Develop our own Heritage Parks in our own communities 2. Develop a cemetery for people that have lived here all their life and currently have to go to a neighboring communities cemetery 20 km away. 3. Further develop the community grounds for community gardens to contribute to needy families, food, banks, soup kitchens, and work with other like-minded groups. 4. Sidewalks on all the streets around the Thornhill schools, providing safe passage for parents and our children to and from the schools.

As it is Thornhill sends 2 million annually to the Northern Recreation Fund, which goes to the aquatic center and arenas. Thornhill contributes as well big dollars to the cemetery and library. Thornhill taxpayers pay for the golf course property taxes, which has 300 Terrace members and makes a profit. They should pay their own taxes. Thornhill contributes at least 25% of retail sales in Terrace businesses. Thornhill contributes 3 million in hidden taxes and transfers, bylaws, etc. dating back from the 70s and 80s to the present. Thornhill pays for their own policing as well. Thornhill Roads are well built and haven't had to be rebuilt in my 50+ years of living here. Unlike Terrace's horseshoe and south side and McConnell Crescent areas. Terrace contributes nothing to Thornhill despite using our soccer, baseball, cricket fields, golf course, stock car track, hiking and biking trails, Community Grounds, Community Centre, gun club, landfill/dump, restaurants, etc. INCORPORATION: will ensure our tax dollars are spent in Thornhill and not sending millions annually to Terrace through the RDKS. Sewer for Thornhill will be started with government funding and grants a small portion to be attached to properties for slight increase annually over 20 years. New businesses and residents will offset most other costs. Prince Rupert just received 65,000,000 for their upgrades, the money is there for Thornhill, only incorporation will unlock the CASH. Thornhill is the fastest growing community in Northwest BC on Yellowhead 16 between Prince George and Prince Rupert.

Have a Good Day !!

Hello Thornhill, Neighbouring Communities, and Friends,

With summer quickly approaching, so is the "Vote" (TBA). A no-show to vote is a vote in favor of this unfair tax. You MUST show up and vote "NO" to this proposed by-law. Our monies would be better spent in Thornhill, for example:

  • Develop a cemetery for people that have lived here all their life and currently have to go to a neighbouring community's cemetery 20 km away.
  • Further develop the community grounds for gardens to contribute to needy families, food banks, soup kitchens, and work with other like-minded groups.
  • Sidewalks on all the streets around the Thornhill schools, providing safe passage for parents and our children to and from the schools.

As it is, Thornhill sends $2 million annually to the Northern Recreation Fund, which goes to the aquatic centre and arenas. Thornhill also contributes significantly to the cemetery and library, and pays for the golf course property taxes, which benefits 300 Terrace members and makes a profit. They should pay their own taxes.

Thornhill contributes at least 25% of retail sales in Terrace businesses. We also contribute $3 million in hidden taxes and transfers, bylaws, etc., dating back from the 70s and 80s to the present. Thornhill pays for their own policing as well.

INCORPORATION will ensure our tax dollars are spent in Thornhill and not sent annually to Terrace through the RDKS. Sewer for Thornhill will be started with government funding and grants, a small portion to be attached to properties for a slight increase annually over 20 years. New businesses and residents will offset most other costs. Prince Rupert just received $65,000,000+ for their upgrades; the money is there for Thornhill, only incorporation will unlock the CASH.

Thornhill is the fastest-growing community in Northwest BC on Yellowhead 16 between Prince George and Prince Rupert.
