Thornhill Mountain offers a rewarding 6.7 km hike along an old mining trail that takes you up to the alpine zone. Here, you'll find breathtaking panoramic views of the Skeena and Kitimat Valleys. The trail's highlight is the historic Forest Service Lookout, rebuilt in 2012 to celebrate the BCFS centenary. This moderate hike is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of high-altitude landscapes.
These trails, integral parts of the original Thornhill Mountain trail system, are a thrill for mountain biking enthusiasts. Designed primarily for single-track downhill riding, both trails offer a mix of adventure and scenic beauty. Bikers are reminded to be considerate of other trail users to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
From the junction of Highway 16 East and Highway 37, head east on Highway 16 for about 0.5 km.
Drive 6 km along Old Lakelse Lake Road. After passing the Thornhill Landfill by 800 meters, turn left onto Copper Mountain Road.
Follow Copper Mountain Road for approximately 2.3 km to reach the trailhead. For lower trail access, park in the designated area and take the old road on the left upon entering the trees. The trailhead is about 100 meters along this path.
For upper trail access, take the right-hand fork on Copper Mountain Road and continue for about 2.0 km until you reach a pullout by the Hydro right of way. If you pass the hiking trail, you've gone too far.
Whether you're looking to hike or bike, Thornhill Mountain provides an excellent escape into nature, with well-marked trails and stunning vistas. Remember to prepare adequately for mountain weather conditions and enjoy your adventure on this beautifully rugged terrain.
